About Jonathan Armitage - Freelance Sound Engineer
My Story

Jonathan has been mixing sound for venues, including theatres, churches and schools, since the age of 14. He designed his first sound system in his secondary school (age 15) and was re-engaged by them two years later for a new venue system installation. After completing his sixth form education (Long Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge) in 2021, he immediately started to work for his former college performing arts department before moving to Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge, as Theatre Technician in early 2022. Work here included supporting the "Robinson Theatre" for both internal and external events.

Training

From 2023 - 2025 Jonathan studied at RADA, specialising in Sound, and graduated with a Distinction (85%) in July 2025. He has a wide range of sound design and production sound engineer credits (see Jonathan's RADA profile here). Whilst at RADA he undertook a placement at the Dominion Theatre with the Gareth Owen Sound team for The Devil Wears Prada.

Jonathan continues to work freelance with the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT), RADA, Cambridge Theatre Company (CTC) and Stagecoach Performing Arts. He has regular engagements for live events such as school productions, weddings and other events, for example, Cambridge's Grand Arcade 'Christmas lights switch on'. Most of his freelance work is return business.
